In 2017, the Government embarked on the most significant reform to higher education in a generation, ushering in a new approach to regulating quality. Central to this approach is the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), which aims to drive improvement in teaching, learning and student outcomes at universities and colleges and ensure that every student has access to a high-quality academic experience.
Following the last TEF assessment in 2019, the Office for Students developed a new framework outlining proposals for reforms to the process, culminating in the launch of the Teaching Excellence Framework Consultation in January 2022. The results of the consultation were published in July 2022, introducing key changes including a revised condition of registration for student outcomes (condition B3), expanded student participation and new thresholds for continuation, completion and progression. Additionally, the new submission window has been extended until January 2023 to allow providers sufficient time to develop and deliver submissions that also take into account the new minimum threshold requirements, due to be published in late September 2022.
This Policy Foresight online live conference offers a timely opportunity for key stakeholders from across the higher education landscape to examine the findings of the Teaching Excellence Framework Consultation and the key changes that will impact on provider submissions, including the new minimum threshold requirements. The webinar will explore the key role that the refreshed TEF plays in the wider reform of teaching standards and consider how it will drive up standards, improve retention rates and deliver better outcomes for students. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn best practice from universities and college leaders on how to demonstrate excellence and deliver a successful student-centred submission, overcome implementation challenges and share innovative solutions to enhance teaching quality and explore schemes to improve student experience and enhance employability outcomes in every HE institution.
