A recent Office for Students survey of final-year undergraduates found that one in four students have experienced sexual harassment, while one in seven have experienced sexual assault or violence — much of which still goes unreported. The scale of the challenge remains significant, reinforcing the need for robust and effective institutional responses.

One year on from the introduction of Condition E6, higher education providers are now expected to demonstrate how they are preventing, addressing and tackling harassment and sexual misconduct on campus. Institutions must evidence compliance across a range of requirements — from establishing a single comprehensive source of information, to delivering effective training, removing barriers to reporting and ensuring investigations are fair and credible. This places greater emphasis on governance, oversight and institutional assurance, with senior leaders and governing bodies expected to play a central role in monitoring compliance, managing risk and driving continuous improvement.

With growing regulatory scrutiny — and the potential for legal, reputational and financial consequences — providers must ensure their approach is not only robust in design, but demonstrably effective in practice.

This timely digital conference brings together policymakers, legal experts and university/college leaders to assess progress one year on, explore what effective implementation looks like in practice and examine how institutions can ensure their approach is compliant, evidence-based and defensible.
